Third Arbëresh Studies Congress to Take Place in Tirana

The Third Arbëresh Studies Congress will be held later this month. The event is organized by the Center for Arbëresh Studies and Publications (QSPA) and marks the center’s five-year anniversary.
This edition focuses on “Narratives of the Past and Present in the Diaspora–Homeland Dialectic: Arbëresh and Albania.” Scholars will explore the relationship between Albania and the Arbëresh community, highlighting the complex dynamics of diaspora and homeland connections.
Dr. Giuliana B. Prato from the University of Kent, UK, will deliver a Lectio Magistralis titled “Shaping New Albanian Identities: From Arbëresh Diaspora to Contemporary Expatriates.” The lecture will be followed by discussions among Arbëresh community leaders, Albanian and Arbëresh scholars.
QSPA notes that recent studies show the diaspora concept has evolved, encompassing identity, belonging, culture, and heritage in new, dynamic ways. The Arbëresh community has maintained strong links with Albania, shaping historical narratives and reinforcing cultural connections between diaspora and homeland.
