Tirana Prepares for Dutch Cultural Week

With the German Cultural Week concluded, Tirana is ready for the Dutch Cultural Week. It starts tomorrow and runs until October 11.

During this week, visitors will explore the Netherlands through history, art, and culture. The opening coincides with the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Netherlands and Albania. A special event in Tirana, in cooperation with the Albanian Football Federation, will mark the anniversary. It recalls the legendary 1970 match between Ajax and 17 Nëntori-Tirana, which ended in a symbolic 2–2 draw.

The week features the reunion of football legends Arie Haan and Ruud Krol with former Albanian players after 55 years. They will attend the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress exhibition, a symbol of diversity and progress.

The Amsterdam Rainbow Dress exhibition displays a unique dress made from flags of countries where queer orientation remains criminalized. Each flag from a country that decriminalizes queer people is replaced by a rainbow. The dress becomes a living artwork symbolizing progress, triumphs, and ongoing challenges in the fight for human rights.

Another highlight focuses on traditional Albanian motifs and modern Dutch design. Dutch-Albanian industrial designer Felice Emanuels will show how traditional Albanian motifs are reimagined and transformed into contemporary textiles using modern Dutch industrial design techniques.

This colorful and creative week offers participants a journey through past and future.
