On the occasion of the “National Day of Cultural Heritage” an exhibition titled “Generation after Generation” will be held today, October 2, at 14:00 in the lobby of the Ministry of Culture. This exhibition is a tribute to the past and an inspiration for the future, reminding us of the importance of preserving our cultural treasures and monuments.
The exhibition takes place in the framework of the “National Day of Cultural Heritage,” celebrated annually on September 29. On this day, it is paid respect to the Albanian national heritage, which is an integral part of European heritage. It is a day when all its material and spiritual values come together, intertwined with the people who created and preserved them. These treasures serve as evidence of Albanian cultural and European identity, passed down through generations.
This day attributed to the dedication and sacrifice of all those who have contributed to the formation and study of this heritage, as well as those who have made direct sacrifices for its preservation.
This is the day when all show in respect to the contributions of restorers, architects, researchers, scientists, folklore bearers, and artisans—whether they are well-known or anonymous—all of whom have breathed life into the word ‘Albanian’.
On the “National Day of Cultural Heritage,” cultural and heritage institutions across the country organize various cultural activities. This day coincides with the “European Heritage Days” event, which spans the entire month of September and culminates with the Council of Europe’s campaign: ‘Europe, a common heritage.
At the heart of this day lies a patriotic and heroic act by soldiers: Kamber Bënja, Bexhet Manastirliu, and Abaz Taushani. In 1916, during the First World War, they successfully prevented the looting and theft of archaeological objects from the Apollonia park. The celebration of September 29 as the National Day of Cultural Heritage in Albania began in 2003.
