Tourists explore Shkodra’s Historic Museum

Tourists are increasingly choosing Shkodra’s Historic Museum as they explore the city’s cultural heritage.
Prime Minister Edi Rama shared images showing the museum filled with Albanian and international visitors. Meanwhile, rising tourist numbers are bringing greater attention to Shkodra’s cultural and heritage sites.
The city combines a rich history with distinctive architecture. Together, these features create a memorable experience for visitors exploring northern Albania.
The Historic Museum of Shkodra began taking shape in 1947 under the name “Folk Museum”. It officially developed into a full museum in 1949.
Initially, the museum operated in a 19th-century monumental building in the city center, near the Clock Tower. Its collections came from the historic Jesuit and Franciscan monasteries, as well as from prominent Shkodra families.
In 1996, the museum moved to the traditional “Oso Kuka” Shkodra house, where it remains today.
The museum features archaeology, ethnography, visual arts and a library. It also forms part of the cultural institutions managed by the Municipality of Shkodra.
