The restoration and maintenance of religious icons is receiving more and more attention every day from the relevant institutions.

Specialists at the restoration of works of art in the Laboratory of Restoration of Works of Art in the Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage in Berat are carrying out the process of cleaning and restoring two icons; “Christ the High Priest on the Throne”, authored by Gjergj Joan Çetitin (Grabova) and “Christ the High Priest”.

“The masters of the Laboratory of Restoration of Works of Art at the National Center of Museums in Berat continue their work every day to bring to light the saints, who have been waiting for decades to be freed from the dust and layers that time has worn on them”, stated the Minister of Culture Elva Margariti.

Minister Margariti announced that after the restoration, the icons will be exhibited in the “Onufri” Museum.

The Regional Directorate of National Culture, Berat, has as its main goal the extraction of these works of art from the stage of degradation, giving them the possibility of exposure in the continuation of a process that aims to preserve and promote cultural heritage.
