Albania is making progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), UN Resident Coordinator in Albania Ingrid Macdonald said following the conclusion of the UN’s “SDG Moment 2026” event in New York.

Macdonald said Albania has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating progress toward the 2030 Agenda. The country aims to ensure that the benefits of development reach all citizens.

According to data published by the United Nations, Albania’s poverty rate has fallen from 23.7% to 19%, while the under-five mortality rate has been cut by half. More than 95% of public services are now available online, while most of the country’s electricity comes from renewable sources.

In terms of political representation, women hold 35% of seats in Parliament and nearly 50% of ministerial positions. Albania also ranks 44th worldwide in the 2026 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Index.

Prime Minister Edi Rama also attended the event in New York. According to the UN, he highlighted the importance of the 2030 Agenda and reforms linked to Albania’s European Union accession process.

The UN also welcomed the Albanian government’s contribution to the SDG Acceleration Fund in Albania. It described the investment as a commitment to turning sustainable development goals into concrete results for citizens and communities.
