UNMIK chief urges Kosova and Serbia to implement agreements

United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosova (UNMIK) chief Peter N. Due urged Kosova and Serbia to engage constructively in European Union-facilitated dialogue. He stressed the importance of implementing existing agreements.
Reporting to the United Nations Security Council on developments in Kosova from March 16 to September 15, 2026, Due welcomed the election of new President Justina Shiroka-Pula and the formation of institutions. He described these developments as encouraging steps towards overcoming the political deadlock.
However, he stressed the need to turn this progress into effective governance for all communities. Due reaffirmed UNMIK’s commitment to dialogue, confidence-building and inclusion among communities. He also highlighted the importance of continued international engagement in Kosova and the region.
Due stressed the need to establish the fate of missing persons. He also called for full cooperation between authorities in Kosova and Serbia to hold those responsible for the Banjska attack and the attack on the Ibër-Lepenc canal accountable.
He also noted that Kosova’s Assembly had adopted amendments to the Law on the Specialist Chambers and Specialist Prosecutor’s Office.
