Western Balkan leaders meet in Montenegro to discuss economy, security and EU integration

Leaders of the six Western Balkan countries are expected to meet in Miločer, Montenegro, on Thursday for the Berlin Process summit. They will discuss economic cooperation, regional security and European integration.

Representatives from Albania, Kosova, Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina are expected to attend. European countries and institutions will also send representatives. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama travelled to Budva on Wednesday evening. Kosova’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti also travelled to Montenegro on Wednesday. His office said he was expected to hold bilateral meetings with international officials.

Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajic and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will open the summit. European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos has also confirmed her participation.

Discussions will focus on economic development, competitiveness, cross-border trade and investment. Leaders will also address regional security and cooperation on shared challenges.

Launched in 2014, the Berlin Process supports regional cooperation and European integration across the Western Balkans. Its key priorities include the Common Regional Market, the movement of goods, services, capital and people, and mutual recognition of professional qualifications. The summit will also review progress on regional agreements and consider further steps towards integration into the European market.
