“When Beings Meet,” a collective exhibition of 24 artists, is being showcased at the National Gallery of Kosovo

The National Gallery of Kosovo Inaugurates the Collective Exhibition “From the Collection: When Beings Meet”

Yesterday, the National Gallery of Kosovo opened its doors to the collective exhibition featuring selected works titled “From the Collection: When Beings Meet.” The exhibition brings together the works of 24 artists, renowned figures in visual art across various time periods.

The announcement was made by the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports of Kosovo through a social media post.

Art has long intertwined with the representation of life, identity, and the human condition in relation to non-human beings. This exhibition begins with the portrayal of animals in visual art over an extended period, featuring works from the late 20th century that are part of the National Gallery of Kosovo’s collection.

The selected works explore the representation of animals in both imaginary and real settings, blurring the boundaries and hierarchies between beings.

The paintings of Mikel Gjokaj and the sculptures of Radoslav Musa Miketić and Dragoljub Adžić mystify and materialize human and non-human beings with anthropomorphic qualities.

All three artists, in their works, reference the Greek mythological figure Icarus, who met his demise after flying too close to the sun, which melted his wax wings.

The exhibition is curated by Hana Halilaj and Shkamb Jaka.
