Prime Minister Edi Rama shared social media updates on the ongoing work at the National Art Gallery, which will become the National Museum of Fine Arts.

The project will double exhibition space, add an advanced restoration laboratory, and expand storage areas to protect and secure Albania’s artistic treasures.

The museum will feature two new entrances, an advanced security system, emergency stairs, and HVAC systems to maintain artworks under optimal conditions.

Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sports Blendi Gonxhja called the project an epochal transformation of the gallery.

Construction began in late 2021 after the 2019 earthquake damaged the building. Once completed, the museum will serve as a modern hub, showcasing Albania’s cultural heritage, creativity, and contemporary visual art.

Adela Demetja now leads the museum as its first female director, advancing gender equality in cultural leadership and integrating independent artistic voices into Albania’s institutional art narrative.
