Youth Academy of Albania re-established, with 9 winning candidates selected

The commission set up by the Academy of Sciences for the competition for the admission of new members of the Youth Academy, following the basic criteria of the Statute and the “Fundamental Charter of ALLEA,” has announced 9 winning candidates.

After more than four months from the start date, the competition was closed, and the admission committee reviewed the files of the registered candidates, scored their scientific merits, and ranked them. They also verified compliance with the criteria and, at today’s meeting, announced nine winners, as well as reconfirming three of the previous members under the age of 40.

With the new composition, the Youth Academy now has the necessary quorum to function according to the statute law. The new members are Aulon Shabani, Erald Sino, Joniada Barjaba, Jonida Llupa, Claudio Peqini, Ledia Vasjari, Redion Luli, Resul Telaj, and Romina Muka.

Founded by a decision of the Presidency in 2017, the Youth Academy of Albania has become a very important factor in opening up opportunities for young researchers and facilitating intergenerational communication.

Its members have worked diligently to promote a group of scholars in the humanities and exact sciences, increase sensitivity and interest in cooperation with the Academy of Sciences, and bring collaborators closer to quality indicators, evaluation, and indexing of their work.

The re-establishment of the Youth Academy of Albania is an obligation under the Law “On the Academy of Sciences in the Republic of Albania” and its Statute to function according to the new legal framework. The law and the statute contain binding provisions on how the Youth Academy should be structured and function.

Secondly, ALLEA has approved a “New Basic Charter” as a unifying regulator of the way youth academies are established and operated. With some adaptations, this charter has been approved by the ASSH Assembly as its statute.

Thirdly, due to the age limit (up to 40 years old), only three of the founding members of the Youth Academy could continue their membership, as they did not have the legal ability to make decisions.

The ASSH Assembly, after approving the “Basic Charter” and incorporating it into the statute, announced the criteria for new admissions and set up the admissions commission, chaired by academician Adrian Civici.

ASHSH first thanks the previous members of the Youth Academy, who have been with it through good and bad times. According to the “Basic Charter,” they are now considered “ASHSH alumni.”

ASHSH also thanks all competing candidates for their worthy participation in the competition and informs that there will be another competition for new admissions in the coming years.

On April 8, the diploma awarding ceremony and the meeting for the constitution of the Youth Academy will take place.
