Zelensky Awards Spiropali the Order of Princess Olga, First Class

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today awarded the Order of Princess Olga, First Class, to Albania’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Elisa Spiropali.

The Order is one of Ukraine’s highest state decorations. Zelensky awarded it to Spiropali for her service as Speaker of the Albanian Parliament during 2024–2025.

According to the presidential decree, the award recognises her personal contribution to strengthening interstate cooperation. It also honours her support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as her charitable activity in service of the Ukrainian state.

In response, Spiropali said the honour belongs not only to her. She stressed that it reflects Albania’s position and the stance of every European who chooses to stand on the side of freedom.

She underlined that Ukraine today is not defending only its territory. Instead, she said, it is defending Europe’s conscience. She added that Ukraine’s resistance will help determine whether Europe lives in peace and justice or under fear and force.

Furthermore, Spiropali noted that the Order bears the name of Princess Olga, a woman who led with dignity during dark times. She said receiving the decoration during a war for survival and freedom carries a strong moral responsibility.

She also reaffirmed Albania’s support for Ukraine. She said Albania stands with Ukraine not out of protocol, but out of conviction. History, she added, teaches that freedom is preserved by standing firm, even when it comes at a cost.

Addressing President Zelensky, Spiropali described the Order as one of the greatest honours of her public life. She said it symbolises the strong relations between Albania and Ukraine, especially in challenging times.

Finally, Spiropali expressed hope for peace. She said both Albania and Ukraine pray for a future built on freedom, dignity, and solidarity.
