Zero carbon tax for energy of Albanian origin, according to the European Commission

TIRANA, January 12 – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, stated today that Albania’s energy production relies mainly on renewable sources. She added that, as a result, it benefits from a zero carbon tax.

During the presentation of the Tropoja wind farm, attended by Prime Minister Edi Rama and Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Tirana, Nancy VanHorn, Balluku explained that Albania has invested strategically in sustainable energy. The investments include hydroelectric plants, wind farms, and solar energy projects.

She emphasized that the focus is no longer on plans on paper. Instead, Albania now produces installed megawatt-hours, attracts billions in foreign investment, and operates functional projects on the ground. Balluku added that these developments take full advantage of a system that ensures energy production comes from renewable sources.

She further noted that, according to the European Commission, the carbon tax for Albanian energy is zero. Balluku explained that this outcome reflects smart investments and clear policies that guarantee integration with the European energy market.
