The 100th anniversary of Luigj Gurakuqi’s assassination was marked by a commemorative ceremony in Bari, organized by Mayor Vito Leccese and the University of Bari. Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, Elisa Spiropali, attended the event and emphasized the immense historical significance of Gurakuqi’s legacy.

“Luigj Gurakuqi was neither a random nor an episodic figure; he was a key personality whose role was decisive in shaping Albania’s fate in the early 20th century. These were the years when Albania was emerging, and our great patriot and statesman, scholar and fighter, was always at the forefront. He was one of the most distinguished men of Albania, defending his homeland with his knowledge, his pen, and his battles. He was not just a polymath scholar but also a warrior for Albania’s independence,” stated Speaker Spiropali.

Luigj Gurakuqi was a signatory of the Declaration of Independence and a prominent figure in Albanian politics during the first quarter of the 20th century.
