PM Rama supports Kosova–EU Coordination on recognition of Serbian documents

TIRANA, March 15 – Prime Minister Edi Rama supported coordination between Kosova and the European Union regarding the Law on Foreigners and the recognition of certain Serbian documents in northern Kosova.
In a post on X, Rama welcomed the coordination and said dismantling parallel structures is a difficult process. He added that the EU should match this effort by lifting punitive measures and advancing Kosova’s EU membership application. He also stressed that full EU integration of the Western Balkans represents a strategic victory for Europe.
Kosovo authorities said full implementation of the Law on Foreigners and the vehicle law will start on March 15. Under the rules, people without Kosova documents must obtain residence permits. Vehicles with foreign plates may circulate for up to three months unless they receive special authorization.
The government adopted easing measures for the Serbian community after a meeting in Prishtina between Prime Minister Albin Kurti and EU Special Representative for the Kosova–Serbia Dialogue Peter Sorensen.
Kurti said the government will continue work to integrate the Serbian education and health systems into Kosova’s unified system. EU envoy Sorensen welcomed Kosova’s commitment to the rule of law and its gradual implementation of the new legislation.
