National Folk Ensemble Dedicates Concert to Late Master of Dance Rexhep Çeliku

A special concert honoring the master of folk dance, Rexhep Çeliku, will take place this Wednesday at 19:00 at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet, featuring the Folk Songs and Dances Ensemble.

This performance is conceived as a tribute in remembrance of the 7th anniversary of the passing of the “flying dancer.”

The one-and-a-half-hour concert will showcase some of the finest pieces from the repertoire of the “National Honor” awardee, Çeliku. Soloist Helga Saraçi joined the “Miqtë e Pasdites” /Friends of the Afternoon/ show on RTSH 1 to discuss the event.

Saraçi explained that organizing the concert was a challenge, given Çeliku’s long and successful career.

“Selecting the dances for this concert was extremely difficult,” she said. “It involved consultations with prominent figures in the dance world, who, after much deliberation, were able to select nine dances from his vast repertoire”.

The concert will feature works that Çeliku himself staged, including choreographies like “Mall për Çamërinë” /Longing for Çamëria/ and a dance inspired by “Trimat e Jutbinës” /The Bravehearts of Jutbina/, a striking performance created by the legendary Rexhep Çeliku.

Artistic Director Sokol Marsi, working alongside current dance master Genci Kastrati and other esteemed artists, has carefully curated the dances to be performed at this heartfelt tribute concert.
