“Xhubleta Traditional Craft” Opens in Koplik to Preserve a Unique Albanian Tradition

In an effort to preserve the heritage of the Xhubleta, a traditional garment of Northern Albania, the “Xhubleta Traditional Craft” has officially opened in Koplik, Malësia e Madhe.

The initiative, led by UNESCO, the Ministry of Culture, and the Malësia e Madhe Municipality, has gathered 13 women and girls from the region to learn the intricate craft of creating the Xhubleta, an iconic symbol of Albanian culture.

Master artisan File Kola, the only remaining expert in the region skilled in the making of Xhubletas, is leading the training.

“I am a creator of Xhubletas. My goal is to pass on my knowledge so that the women and girls we train can continue this valuable tradition,” said Kola.

The participants have already learned essential techniques and are eager to carry the craft forward.

“This is a profession I am passionate about. We’ve learned every step of the process,” said trainee Enduela Kola.

“Our mothers always wore Xhubleta, and they were beautiful. They made them themselves. I’ve always wanted to know how they did it,” added Ina Shoshi, another participant.

The “”Xhubleta Traditional Craft” project offers not only employment opportunities for local women and girls but also ensures the continuation of a tradition that is vital to the cultural identity of Northern Albania.

The Xhubleta, which was added to UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage in 2022, has been recognized as a symbol of Albanian identity and craftsmanship.
