Albanian and Kosovo Archives Open Exhibition Honoring Luigj Gurakuqi

Albanian and Kosovo archival institutions have opened an exhibition in Pristina highlighting the life and legacy of national figure Luigj Gurakuqi.
The exhibition, titled Luigj Gurakuqi in the Documents of the Central State Archive, was organized by the Ali Hadri Institute of History in cooperation with Albania’s General Directorate of Archives and Kosovo’s State Archives Agency.
Ali Hadri Institute of History Director Teuta Shala said archival documents shed light on Gurakuqi’s contributions to education, the Albanian language and the national cause.
General Director of Archives Auron Rrokaj attended the opening. He said the exhibition and an accompanying conference aimed to bring Gurakuqi’s legacy closer to the public in both Albania and Kosovo.
Rrokaj stressed that archives must do more than preserve documents. They must also make historical records accessible to citizens, researchers and students. Cooperation between Albanian and Kosovo institutions seeks to improve access to archival materials and deepen public understanding of shared history.
Kosovo State Archives Agency Deputy Executive Director Mehmet Xhemajli described Gurakuqi as a leading figure of the Albanian National Renaissance. He highlighted his role in advancing Albanian-language education, declaring Albania’s independence and consolidating the Albanian state.
