Tirana, Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue 2025: Gonxhja Highlights Exceptional Economic and Social Growth

Blendi Gonxhja, Minister of Economy, Culture, and Innovation, called today a historic day for the capital, marking the culmination of years of hard work with the prestigious title of ‘Co-Capital of Mediterranean Culture and Dialogue 2025’. This title is proudly worn by one of Europe’s fastest-growing tourist and economic metropolises.

Speaking at the event “Tirana, Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue 2025,” Gonxhja emphasized that “Tirana’s recognition as the Capital of Culture is no accident. This reality could not have been achieved without recalling the relentless process that began with saving the city from chaos and kiosks up until the year 2000, transforming it from ugliness and despair into what it is today”.

He recalled the importance of colors, greenery, urban planning, modern spaces, and roads during the first Renaissance of Tirana. “For the first time, our capital was placed on the global map of positive curiosity. Therefore, it is crucial that we celebrate and protect the work accomplished so far, passing it on to future generations. We are proud and grateful to share this mission. The Ministry of Economy, Culture, and Innovation continues to support and collaborate with the Municipality of Tirana for the most diverse cultural and artistic program in the city’s history, while also opening new spaces that enrich its cultural landscape,” said Gonxhja.

Over the course of the year, Tirana will host an impressive calendar of international festivals, important exhibitions, concerts, and events for all ages.

“One of our main priorities is the promotion of tradition and historical heritage, as well as revitalizing more peripheral areas. Moreover, Tirana’s public safety, combined with its century-old hospitality, adds value to the growing ecosystem of innovation. As a result, Tirana is rapidly becoming an extraordinary engine for economic and social development, achieving visitor records and fostering ever-increasing prosperity for all,” Gonxhja emphasized.

“Tirana, Capital of Culture, stands as a testament to an unimaginable transformation. It is a marathon of change, and we are grateful to all those who have contributed to this progress,” Gonxhja concluded.
