Korça Celebrates Teacher’s Day with Exhibition Highlighting First Albanian School’s Legacy

On March 7th, the city of Korça will open the doors to the exhibition “Gjurmë Dijesh, Fletoret e Para” (“Traces of Knowledge, the First Notebooks”), celebrating not only Teacher’s Day but also the 138th anniversary of the opening of the first Albanian School.

This event, a tribute to the roots of education in Albania, is organized by the Museum of Education in Korça in collaboration with the collector Mirgen Shamblli, the Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage in Korça, and the “Thimi Mitko” Public Library.

Fjoralba Prifti, Director of the Museum of Medieval Art, who also oversees the Museum of Education, shared with ATSH that the exhibition will feature a collection of notebooks dating from 1920 to 1955, preserved by the dedicated collector Mirgen Shamblli. Additionally, the city’s library will offer rare school registers from the 1923-1924 and 1945-1946 academic years.

Director Prifti further explains that in the early days of schooling, students wrote on slate boards, a piece of which will be displayed in the exhibition. This precious artifact, carefully preserved in the museum’s collection, will be showcased for the public to witness the origins of education in Albania.
