International Mother Language Day: President Begaj Calls for the Preservation of the Albanian Language by the Diaspora

On International Mother Language Day, President of the Republic Bajram Begaj emphasized the importance of preserving the Albanian language among diaspora communities.

Responding to his call, Albanians from various countries reaffirmed their commitment to passing down their mother tongue across generations while embracing linguistic and cultural diversity.

A group of diaspora children recited verses from “Albanian Language” by Mitrush Kuteli, a renowned Albanian writer and folklorist dedicated to promoting the Albanian language through literature and translations.

President Begaj has consistently underscored the need for Albanian families abroad to nurture their linguistic heritage, advocating for the establishment of more Albanian-language schools through both voluntary and institutional efforts.

He described this mission as essential to safeguarding the Albanian language as a cornerstone of national identity.

“The Albanian language is the foundation of our national identity, and we must unite in our efforts to preserve, pass on, and enrich it,” wrote President Begaj.

This year marks the Silver Jubilee of International Mother Language Day, celebrating 25 years since its establishment, with a focus on promoting linguistic diversity, protecting endangered languages, and encouraging multilingual education.
