Exhibition of Numismatic and Archaeological Objects: Bank of Albania Signs Agreement with Academy of Sciences

The Academy of Sciences and the Bank of Albania have signed a cooperation agreement for the exhibition of numismatic and archaeological objects managed by the Academy’s Institute of Archaeology at the Bank of Albania Museum.

The agreement was signed today in Tirana by the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, and the Chairman of the Academy of Sciences, Skënder Gjinushi.

This collaboration aims to extend the exhibition period for archaeological objects of historical significance and numismatic coins, which are part of the Institute of Archaeology’s collection, at the Bank of Albania Museum.

Through this partnership, the themes of money and monetary history in Albania will be explored more comprehensively, moving beyond the history of the central bank to provide a broader view of the region’s economic and cultural developments.

The importance of the numismatic and archaeological objects involved in this agreement lies in their representation of an essential part of our historical heritage. They offer irrefutable evidence of the development of pre-monetary exchange, coinage, and currency circulation in our lands during Prehistory and Antiquity.

In his speech, the Governor of the Bank of Albania expressed his gratitude to the Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Archaeology for their trust and continued cooperation. He emphasized that the Museum of the Bank of Albania is not just a part of this institution, but also a hub for preserving national historical memory and a powerful platform for financial education.

As part of the Bank of Albania’s Financial Education and Inclusion Strategy, and based on historical lessons, financial education through the museum helps younger generations and visitors of all ages develop a sustainable and informed approach to money, thus strengthening the economic and financial culture in society.

The Governor further noted that the Bank of Albania is honored to sign this agreement, marking an important step in joint efforts to preserve and promote our cultural heritage.

The agreement ensures the preservation and promotion of objects and collections provided by the Institute of Archaeology for the Bank of Albania Museum, strengthening the collaboration between the two institutions. With the creation of the Autonomous Museum of Archaeology at the Academy of Sciences, this partnership will expand through joint projects, exhibitions, and the continuous enrichment of the museum’s content with new discoveries from Antiquity.

Since 2015, the Bank of Albania and the Academy of Sciences, alongside professors and researchers from the Institute of Archaeology and Institute of History, have established a close working relationship. Their contributions have been essential in shaping the scientific platform of the Bank of Albania Museum and enriching its permanent exhibition.
