Shkodër Carnival Begins on February 17, Lasting a Full Week

The Shkodër Carnival will kick off on February 17, bringing a week-long celebration filled with color, music, and tradition. Organized by the Municipality of Shkodër, the event features a diverse program designed to engage all generations and transform the city into a vibrant hub of festivities.

As one of Albania’s oldest carnival traditions, dating back to 1861, the festival is expected to boost tourism and local business activity.

“We want the entire city to embrace this festive spirit—every neighborhood, school, and business, especially those in the service sector. The celebrations will last a full week, building up to a spectacular weekend finale. We anticipate a large influx of visitors, and hotels have already started receiving bookings,” said Deputy Mayor of Shkodër, Rudin Beka.

The 2025 cultural program aims to draw even more visitors while ensuring the carnival’s sustainability beyond the seasonal festivities.

“It’s not just about numbers; quality matters. The Municipality is committed to shaping the carnival into a long-term cultural landmark, making it a permanent attraction rather than a fleeting event,” Beka emphasized.

During the Shkodër Carnival, the city’s streets come alive with music, dazzling costumes, and iconic Venetian masks, creating an unforgettable atmosphere of joy and creativity.
