Shkodra’s Carnival: A Colorful Celebration of Culture, Music, and Art

The Shkodra Carnival will be held from February 17 to 23, promising to deliver an extraordinary spectacle for the city. Preparations have been underway for several days, and organizers have promised a grand event that will light up the streets of Shkodra.
Sara Smaja, the Director of Culture at the Shkodra Municipality, emphasized that this week will be filled with festive activities across the city’s streets.
The carnival will kick off on Monday, February 17, with schoolchildren taking the spotlight. They will animate the event with a variety of characters, adding vibrant colors to the celebration. This year’s highlight will be the larger-than-life costumes, which are the result of a collaboration between the Shkodra municipality and cities in Italy. These partnerships will bring spectacular designs and oversized figures to the city’s streets.
In addition to the vibrant costumes, the carnival will feature light projections on city buildings and major concerts in the squares in front of the Shkodra Municipality and at “Nënë Tereza” Square. The culmination of the festivities will occur on February 23 with the burning of the effigy, marking the grand finale of the carnival.
