April 15 Marks World Art Day

A global celebration of creativity and expression.
World Art Day, celebrated every April 15, promotes the development, enjoyment, and sharing of art. UNESCO declared this day in 2019 to honor Leonardo da Vinci, born on April 15, 1452—one of the world’s most iconic artists.
The 2025 theme is “The Garden of Expression: Cultivating Community through Art.” Each year, the theme changes to highlight how art shapes society and personal life.
UNESCO states that art fuels creativity, sparks innovation, and enriches cultural diversity. It plays a key role in spreading knowledge and encouraging curiosity and dialogue. Stronger artistic development gives us more tools to build a peaceful and free world.
Each April 15, events around the globe strengthen the link between art and society. These celebrations raise awareness of artistic diversity and highlight the role of artists in sustainable development.
The day also spotlights the importance of arts education. Culture can pave the way for inclusive and equal learning.
On World Art Day, UNESCO invites people everywhere to take part in debates, workshops, exhibitions, and cultural events. It’s a day to unite communities through the power of art.
