On the evening of Tuesday, May 13, the first Eurovision 2025 semifinal in Basel was set aflame, both literally and figuratively, by Albania’s performance.

Greek media outlet Protothema dedicated an article to Shkodra Elektronike’s performance, describing how the eccentric duo captured the audience’s attention with their song “Zjerm” (“Fire”).

The stage presence combined electronic minimalism with strong references to Albanian folk traditions. Lead singer Beatriçe Gjergji appeared on stage wearing a modernized version of a traditional costume, while producer Kolë Laca masterfully coordinated the electronic rhythms, perfectly blending them with Balkan motifs.

Intensive red lighting, smoke, dynamic vocal effects, and simple yet controlled choreography created a unique experience, setting the performance apart from typical Eurovision routines.

The audience warmly applauded the performance, and “Zjerm” quickly became a trend on social media. Already popular from the Albanian Song Festival, where it won first place, the song remains entirely in Albanian, a conscious choice by the artists to preserve the soul of the work.
