Marubi National Museum Receives Final Part of Dokle Photography Collection

The Marubi National Museum of Photography holds Albania’s record for the largest donated photographic collections. It serves as a key center for preserving and studying the country’s visual memory.
On National Cultural Heritage Day, Marubi announced it has received the final part of the Safet and Gjylzade Dokle photography collection.
This last donation includes around 14,146 negatives, two photo albums, two registers, and 840 printed photos. With this addition, the Dokle family’s total donation now reaches 33,694 negatives, 33 photo albums, 33 photographic lab objects, two registers, and 8,835 printed photos.
In 2022, Ramadan Dokle and his family donated an earlier portion of the collection to the museum. Ramadan devoted himself to preserving, cataloging, and digitizing the materials, handling each item with care until the end of his life.
After Ramadan’s passing, his family completed the donation, giving the museum the remaining part of the collection, including the photos he cherished most.
The Safet and Gjylzade Dokle collection represents the largest and most important donation to an Albanian museum since the 1990s.
The collection documents nearly four decades of life in the Kukës region, from 1930 to 1970. It captures political, social, and cultural life, including rituals, traditions, and everyday moments that hold exceptional research value today.
