Albanian Documentary “Four Measures of Soul” Competes at Prestigious Prix Italia Festival

The documentary “Four Measures of Soul” by Albana Kozeli travels to Italy this month. It will compete in one of the most prestigious festivals organized by RAI for more than 70 years.
Produced exclusively by Albanian Radio Television (RTSH), the film pays tribute to the late composer Kujtim Laro — a true icon of Albanian cinema. The documentary offers a musical and emotional journey through Laro’s artistic legacy.
It reveals untold stories, deep emotions, and the inner world of the composer. With his music, Laro brought life to some of the most memorable Albanian films of the past century.
Moreover, the film will compete in the 77th edition of the international competition Prix Italia, held in Naples from October 20 to 24, 2025.
“Four Measures of Soul” premiered earlier this year on the eve of Laro’s birthday at the Millennium Cinema in Tirana.
Kujtim Laro was born in May 1947 in Vlora. He graduated from the Higher Institute of Arts in 1970 and later taught for many years at the Academy of Arts.
He also served as the artistic director of the Army Ensemble. Laro earned the titles “Merited Artist” and “Naim Frashëri” of the First Class. Throughout his career, he composed around 35 film soundtracks, dozens of festival songs, and many other musical works.
Today, his music continues to inspire new generations of artists and audiences alike.
