PM Rama says he is traveling to The Hague to meet Thaçi; hopes 2026 ends “absurd theatre” of international justice

TIRANA, December 18 – Prime Minister Edi Rama described today the trial of former Kosova President Hashim Thaçi and KLA leaders in The Hague as a farce. He said he hopes the “absurd theatre” will end in 2026 with their release.
In a video message, Rama said he is traveling to meet Thaçi and his colleagues. The meeting will follow up on their previous discussions.
He recalled that authorities have detained Thaçi for years in an international justice facility. Rama called this a source of shame for those supporting the system. He criticized violations of standards, human rights, and legal norms.
Rama said the prosecution presented its case with witnesses he called ridiculous. He added that the defense concluded its testimonies. He expressed hope that the coming year will end what he called the absurd theatre of international justice and free Thaçi from isolation.
The Prime Minister urged democratic states backing the court to reflect on the low standards applied to people whose only “crime” was defending freedom and human dignity. He emphasized that truth and justice cannot be shaken.
Rama concluded by highlighting the enduring rights of heroes and victims. He noted the suffering of mothers, sisters, women, and girls during one of Europe’s darkest periods.
