Rama: The Year of the Albanian Language Set New Milestones for Its Preservation and Promotion

2024 was declared “The Year of the Albanian Language,” an initiative that underscores the importance of education and the Albanian language in shaping national identity.
Prime Minister Edi Rama today shared a summary on social media of the major activities held throughout the year.
Rama emphasized that “In the Year of the Albanian Language, we have set new milestones for the preservation and promotion of our language as a core element of our national identity.”
“This special year provided us with the opportunity to reflect on the value of language as a common treasure that unites us as a people, wherever we are, and to further develop our plans for supporting Albanian language education in the diaspora,” said the Prime Minister.
The year 2024 featured a series of initiatives focused on protecting and preserving the Albanian language.
One of the highlights was the National Albanian Language Competition, which saw participation from over 11,000 ninth-grade students across Albania.
Additionally, as part of the ongoing modernization of the Albanian language curriculum, 4,600 Albanian language teachers participated in a national training program. A joint book titled “The Albanian Language and Albanian Culture” was also published.
To unify the teaching materials for Albanian in the diaspora, more than 15,000 free textbooks were distributed to students abroad.
Moreover, a new program, “Teachers for Greece,” was introduced, and a seminar for Albanian language teachers in the diaspora was held.
In November, the National Assembly for the Albanian Language was organized, and the comprehensive Albanian Language Dictionary was finalized.
