Orthodox Christians in Albania Celebrate the Feast of St. Nicholas

On December 6, Orthodox Christians across Albania joyfully celebrated the Feast of St. Nicholas, coinciding with the end of Advent (November 15–25). The occasion was marked with solemn ceremonies in dioceses throughout the country, including in Tirana, Durrës, Korça, Gjirokastër, Fier, Berat, and Elbasan, as well as in churches dedicated to St. Nicholas.
Believers from surrounding areas, catechism groups, and theology students gathered to honor the saint.
St. Nicholas, the 4th-century Bishop of Myra in Lycia, is revered for his secret acts of charity, which inspired the legend of Santa Claus. He is the patron saint of children, sailors, orphans, and the poor.
The name “Nikolla” means “Victory of the People.”
“Wishing a blessed St. Nicholas Day for many years!” – stated the Albanian Autocephalous Orthodox Church in its announcement.
This day is a cherished tradition in Albania, celebrated annually as a significant religious and cultural event.
