EU Ambassador to Albania Silvio Gonzato met with committee co-chairs Arbjan Mazniku and Luçiano Boçi. They lead the Special Parliamentary Committee on Territorial and Administrative Reform.

Gonzato stressed the need for a transparent and inclusive reform. He said it must rely on accurate data and broad consensus.

He emphasized that speed should not replace quality, and efficiency must not undermine local democracy.

“The reform’s functions must come with proper funding,” Gonzato said. “Local authorities should have real autonomy and the capacity to decide.”

He added that the reform should improve public services and align with European standards.

The EU Delegation in Albania described the meeting as constructive. It reaffirmed support for a reform that benefits citizens and strengthens local governance. The Delegation also called for an open, consensus-based process to ensure lasting results.
