Albanian Minister Adea Pirdeni on EU report assessing Albania before 27 member states

TIRANA, April 9 – Albania has opened 33 EU negotiation chapters in record time. Minister of Administration and Anti-Corruption Adea Pirdeni said this outpaces other candidate countries.

In an interview with TV Klan, Pirdeni said the government now focuses on intermediate benchmarks. These benchmarks relate directly to judicial reform, anti-corruption, and administrative capacity building. Albania awaits the European Commission’s assessment report. The report will be presented to all 27 EU member states.

“Albania is at a critical stage in accession talks. We opened 33 chapters faster than other countries on a similar path. The European Commission will present a report to the 27 member states evaluating progress on intermediate benchmarks,” Pirdeni said. She added that these benchmarks cover justice reforms, anti-corruption measures, and other conditions required for chapter closure.

Pirdeni said the government has prepared a solid file on Albania’s progress. “We expect the process to continue at the same pace, or faster. After the report on intermediate benchmarks, we can start closing chapters one by one. Our goal is to complete them by 2027,” she said.

The minister emphasized that Albania aims to close the most advanced chapters quickly. At the same time, the country will strengthen capacities in areas that require more work.
