TIRANA, April 17 – Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama travels to Spain on Friday at the invitation of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. In Barcelona, he will also meet European Council President António Costa. The visit includes participation in the fourth “In Defence of Democracy” summit.

The summit focuses on digital governance, democratic institutions and inequality reduction. Rama is expected to deliver a dedicated address during the event. Organisers have scheduled discussions on regulation of the digital environment and institutional resilience.

On Thursday, Rama met Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome. He also held talks with Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto. The meetings followed the November intergovernmental summit between Italy and Albania.

Meloni said both countries reviewed progress in strategic cooperation after that summit. She highlighted joint work on connectivity, defence and migration management. Rama separately praised Italy’s current government for expanding bilateral cooperation with Albania.
