PM Rama tells Politico EU should reopen channels with Russia over Ukraine war

TIRANA, April 24 – Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama told Politico that the European Union makes a serious mistake by avoiding direct engagement with Russia over the war in Ukraine.
He spoke during the Delphi Economic Forum in Greece. He said Europe cut communication channels with Moscow and urged continued dialogue even during conflict.
Senior European Union officials avoid direct contact with Russian leadership since the invasion of Ukraine. They argue that such engagement lacks effectiveness while the war continues.
Rama said countries without dependency on Russia, including energy ties, hold greater freedom to support dialogue. He warned that Europe risks reducing its role in future peace negotiations if it excludes communication.
The Delphi Economic Forum gathered European leaders to discuss support for Ukraine and wider regional security challenges.
