MIK Festival, a summer artistic event in Korçë, receives support from the European Union.

Seven decades after its debut, the operetta “Agimi” returned to the stage at the “Andon Zako Çajupi” theater in Korçë as part of MIK Fest, generously supported by the European Union Delegation to Albania. Directed with meticulous care by Inva Mula, this revival not only revived a cultural gem but also rekindled themes of love and national pride. Originally premiered in 1954, “Agimi” once again captivated audiences with its rich Albanian motifs and poignant storytelling.
The 2024 edition of MIK Fest was marked by significant collaborations and initiatives aimed at enriching Albania’s cultural landscape. A standout feature was the partnership with the Armed Forces Orchestra, whose resonant performance was warmly embraced by the people of Korçë and drew a diverse audience, many attending specifically for MIK Fest. This collaboration underscored MIK Fest’s commitment to fostering cultural appreciation and community engagement through the arts.
For Inva Mula, a renowned soprano and the festival’s driving force, this edition held profound personal and artistic significance. Reflecting on “Agimi” returning to the stage after seven decades, Mula emphasized its role as a cornerstone of Albanian vocal scenic art, embodying the essence of Albanian culture and heritage. The decision to revive the operetta was not merely a nod to nostalgia but a deliberate effort to preserve and promote Albania’s artistic legacy, ensuring its accessibility through digital means for future generations.
In media statements, Inva Mula highlighted MIK Fest’s youthful vitality, evident in the participation of young artists, including a choir led by Suzana Turku, whose average age was 24. The festival commenced with an evocative artistic journey featuring pianist and musicologist Red Radoja, followed by stirring performances by a trio from North Macedonia and contributions from esteemed French and local Albanian artists. Each performance added to the festival’s rich tapestry of musical excellence and cultural dialogue.
The culmination of MIK Fest 2024 took place in the serene setting of St. Koll’s Church courtyard in Voskopojë, where attendees were treated to a spiritually uplifting program featuring timeless compositions by revered composers like Schubert and Bach, enhanced by the natural acoustics of the surroundings.
MIK Fest, conceived and passionately led by Inva Mula, has remained rooted in Korçë and its surrounding regions, a source of artistic inspiration and creativity. Mula’s own career began in Korçë, where she received her first professional accolades in 1987, reinforcing the city’s profound influence on her artistic journey and the festival’s enduring commitment to celebrating Albania’s cultural richness.
In essence, MIK Fest 2024 was not merely a cultural event but a celebration of Albania’s artistic heritage and a testament to the power of music and theater in uniting communities and fostering national pride.
