PM Rama tells “Euronews Serbia” protests reflect rising expectations as living standards improve

TIRANA, July 14 – Prime Minister Edi Rama said protests in Albania reflect broader social changes and higher expectations among citizens, during an interview with “Euronews Serbia”.
Rama said the protests represent more than a specific issue that brings people together. He described them as a sign that Albania has entered a new stage of development, where citizens demand faster improvements.
Meanwhile, the prime minister said people have become less tolerant of shortcomings because living standards have improved. He added that rising expectations are a challenge that society must address.
Rama argued that citizens in developing and developed societies usually expect more once conditions improve. According to him, poorer societies often tolerate missing services and opportunities for longer, while people in more advanced societies demand further progress.
The prime minister said criticism and protests should be viewed in the context of these changing expectations. He added that citizens are right to seek better conditions, but warned against relying on approaches that could worsen the situation.
The interview with “Euronews Serbia” focused on social changes in Albania and the relationship between economic development, public expectations and political demands.
