PM Rama: Security also depends on protecting the digital space from information manipulation

TIRANA, July 27 – Prime Minister Edi Rama said that modern security depends not only on military capabilities but also on protecting democracy, the digital space and public trust.
Speaking at the conference “Addressing Information Manipulation and Foreign Interference: Albania and the Enlargement Context”, Rama said Albania and Europe face new challenges linked to information manipulation and foreign interference.
He stated that a country’s strength is measured not only by the size of its military but also by its ability to respond to attempts that affect public perceptions and social divisions.
Meanwhile, Rama said manipulation now spreads at the speed of algorithms and gains further impact through artificial intelligence. He added that digital space protection has become a national security priority.
Rama said security institutions must address threats that appear through daily online content, viral trends or shared links. According to him, these forms of interference target open public debates and democratic institutions.
The prime minister also said Albania has developed strong cyber protection capacities. He added that the current challenge involves safeguarding digital space, citizens and their personal data.
