Johann Strauss II’s famous operetta “Die Fledermaus” will take the stage at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet (TKOB), bringing the glamour, humour and elegance of Vienna to Tirana.

The operetta tells a story of misunderstandings, masks, revenge and comic situations. It also features some of Strauss’s most memorable waltzes.

“Die Fledermaus” ranks among Strauss’s best-known operettas. It premiered in Vienna in 1874. Karl Haffner and Richard Genée wrote the libretto, while the work combines music with spoken dialogue.

The story unfolds over one night filled with misunderstandings, disguises and hidden identities. Gabriel von Eisenstein must report to prison to serve a sentence. Before doing so, however, he attends a grand ball organised by Prince Orlofsky.

At the ball, his wife Rosalinda also appears in disguise. Meanwhile, a series of encounters leads the characters into a chain of comic misunderstandings.

The operetta stands out for its lively rhythms, elegant waltzes and humour. It also features famous numbers such as “Mein Herr, was dächten Sie?”, “Frühlingsstimmen” and the finale of the second act.

At TKOB, the production will run for three consecutive evenings, on September 25, 26 and 27.

Tenor Denis Skura will perform the role of Gabriel von Eisenstein in all three performances.

Meanwhile, tenor Erlind Zeraliu will play Frank, while Gilmond Miftari will take the role of Dr. Blind. Tenors Gerald Murrja and Matias Xheli will share the role of Alfred.

Sopranos Renisa Laçka and Nina Muho will portray Rosalinda, while Rovena Xhelili will perform as Adele. Ida will be played by sopranos Greis Shametaj and Viola Bakiasi. Baritones Solen Alla and Artur Vera will perform the role of Dr. Falke.

Genc Vozga will portray Frosch in all three performances. Mezzo-soprano Amelda Papa will take the role of Prince Orlofsky.
