Deputy PM Koçiu: Albania records 32 million cyberattack attempts in nine months

Albania recorded nearly 32 million cyberattack attempts against its digital infrastructure during the first nine months of 2026. Deputy Prime Minister Albana Koçiu said the average reached 81 attempts per minute at the National Cybersecurity Conference. She stressed that cybersecurity protects public services, state operations and citizens’ trust.
Koçiu also recalled the 2022 cyberattack that Albanian authorities blamed on Iran. She described it as a turning point that pushed the country to invest more in digital protection and treat cybersecurity as a national security priority. She said Albania now has stronger defences and better-prepared institutions.
Nearly half of the recorded attempts targeted critical infrastructure directly. Koçiu also presented figures on cyber incidents. Authorities recorded 51 incidents last year and 25 between January and September 2026.
