Albanian prime minister to meet NATO chief Mark Rutte in Brussels

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama is due to meet NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte today at the alliance’s headquarters in Brussels. NATO confirmed the meeting in its official schedule.

The two officials have met several times before to discuss Albania’s cooperation with NATO, security in the Western Balkans and the country’s contribution to alliance missions. Their talks have also covered defence capabilities.

During a September 2025 meeting in Brussels, they discussed reviving Albania’s military industry, the planned military port at Porto Romano and Albania’s possible participation in the European Union’s Security Action for Europe programme. At the NATO summit in The Hague in June 2025, they also discussed investment in the Port of Durrës and preparations for the alliance’s 2027 summit in Tirana.

NATO said the meeting would not include media statements or interviews. The alliance will publish photographs on its official website after the meeting.
