“Bilbili” folklore group, concert tour in Switzerland and France

The folklore group “Bilbili” of the city of Vlora in cooperation with the association “Albanian Community in Geneva” has held tour concert in Switzerland and France.

The artistic director of this group, Sejmen Gjokoli, told ATSH that “this group presented the artistic and historical values of Albanian polyphony, as one of the earliest forms of popular music in the Balkans, today protected by UNESCO “Cultural wealth of humanity” .

According to him, in the concerts held, the folklore group “Bilbili” performed the best repertoire of old traditional Albanian songs that had no borders, songs from the south, the north, etc.

During these days, the “Bilbili” group held two official concerts, one at the “Madelei” Theater in Geneva and the “Avully” Castle in France, as well as two joint concerts with the “Hareja” group, one near the center of the “Iliria” Association and the other in the center of the “Gezuz” Ensemble.

During their stay in Geneva, members of the “Bilbili” group had the opportunity to visit many attractive places of this city, such as the Nuclear Nuclear Center in Cern, the old city of Geneva, the Lake Fountain, the famous city clock, etc.

“Special and quite impressive was the visit to the bust of Skënderbeg, located in the large flower garden by the lake, near the former building of the UN”, said Gjokoli.

The folklore group “Bilbili” ranks today among the best in Albania, but with a prominent name in the scenes of other countries as well. And this, not only for the evaluations or awards that this group has deserved, in national and international folklore activities. The profile it has created, the rich repertoire, the professional level and standard, are enough to place this group in the pantheon of the best cultural heritage values.

The group was created in 1994. The basis of the song of this group is the Labe polyphony of several regions of Labëria. It has taken part in several regional and national festivals as well as in a number of international folklore meetings.
