Albania elected to UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee, PM Rama calls it a moment of pride

TIRANA, June 18 – Albania has been elected as a member of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO for the 2026–2030 term. Prime Minister Edi Rama described the result as “fantastic news from Paris” in a social media post.

Albania secured 73 votes in favor. It gained international support to take an active role in the global forum for decision-making on the protection, promotion, and capacity-building of intangible cultural heritage.

Rama said the outcome also reflects recognition of the work of national institutions. He added that Albania will now have the opportunity to contribute directly during the four-year mandate to the implementation of the 2003 UNESCO Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the countries that supported Albania’s candidacy. He said the trust represents a major responsibility that Albania will carry out with commitment, professionalism, and international cooperation.

Rama also said Albania’s role in the committee will contribute to strengthening the protection and promotion of the principles of the UNESCO 2003 Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage.
