The Assembly of Albania will issue a joint statement after the Hague Special Court sentenced four former leaders of the Kosova Liberation Army to a total of 81 years in prison.

Assembly Speaker Niko Peleshi said the Assembly had adopted a common position involving all political forces. He described the ruling as an important and painful moment for Kosova, as well as for Albania’s national history and collective memory. Peleshi said the Assembly would issue a joint statement expressing its position on the decision. The Committee on European Affairs and Foreign Affairs was finalizing the details of the statement.

Meanwhile, the Assembly said international partners should address the ruling with caution. It called for consideration of the Kosova Liberation Army’s contribution to the liberation of Kosova and to stability in the region.
