Albanian Director Erenik Beqiri’s Film Nominated for Cesar Award in France

The Albanian short film ‘A Short Trip’ by director Erenik Beqiri has been officially nominated for the prestigious Cesar Awards, France’s equivalent of the Oscars, in its 50th edition.
The National Center of Cinematography (QKK) congratulated Beqiri and producer Olivier Berlemont, commending their “outstanding work” and wishing them further success. The 2025 Cesar Awards ceremony will take place in late February, where ‘A Short Trip’ will compete alongside 23 other films in the short film category.
The film tells the story of Klodi and Mira, an Albanian couple who agree that Mira will marry a French citizen for five years to obtain French citizenship. The narrative explores the emotional challenges of finding the right spouse and the couple’s journey of separation.
Previously, ‘A Short Trip’ won Best Short Film in the Orizzonti category at the Venice Film Festival, earning international recognition.
Marking its 50th anniversary, this year’s Cesar Awards will feature a special appearance by iconic French actress Catherine Deneuve, celebrating her exceptional career and legacy.
The Cesar Academy recognizes over 3,000 filmmakers and 600 films annually through a rigorous selection process. Members evaluate films based on public acclaim, critical reviews, and industry recognition.
As one of France’s most significant cinematic events, the Cesar Awards ceremony is broadcast live, attended by over 1,700 guests, and held at one of Paris’s most prestigious venues.
