‘Albanian Encyclopedia’: 3-Day Editorial Work Between Albania and Kosovo Concludes

The Albanological Encyclopedic Publishing Center (QBEA), in collaboration with the local editorial teams from Tirana and Pristina, organized the scheduled meetings between the heads of the respective editorial teams and the responsible editors from various departments.
These meetings, involving editorial teams from eight subject areas, were part of the final phase of completing the Unified Dictionary project.
A total of 32 representatives from the local editorial teams, editorial heads, and, when necessary, members from specific field teams (such as Medieval, Byzantine, Ottoman Period, Renaissance, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Multimedia, and Ancient History) participated in the discussions.
The first round of meetings brought together the eight editorial teams for three days to address outstanding issues and finalize agreements.
The meetings were led by academic Mehmet Kraja, head of the Pristina editorial team and deputy editor-in-chief of the Albanian Encyclopedia project, academic Vasil Tole, and Dr. Arian Leka, director of QBEA and member of the Tirana editorial team.
By the end of the meetings, specific guidelines were given to all teams to complete and clarify the proposed articles where necessary, with explanations on the significance of each article and whether it should be a standalone entry or summarized within the encyclopedia.
It was agreed that another round of meetings would take place in January for the Linguistics/Albanology, Education, Political Systems, Military History, Economics, and some Natural and Exact Sciences teams. This will also include final revisions of the proposals from the special editorial team in North Macedonia, led by Prof. Aziz Pollozhani and Prof. Valbona Toska.
The deadline for submitting the finalized version of the Dictionary is set for January 15, 2025. The submitted version must be the final, converged, integrated, and unified version.
The “Albanian Encyclopedia” is a joint project of the Academy of Sciences of Albania and the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Kosovo, supported and co-financed by the governments of Albania and Kosovo. It is envisioned as a comprehensive work consisting of around 300 major articles, 2,000 medium-sized articles, 7,000 small articles, and approximately 600 summary articles.
