Albanian Foreign Ministry pledges diplomatic offensive to defend Kosova Liberation Army legacy

TIRANA, February 13 – Albanian diplomacy announced a full international engagement to protect the historical truth of the Kosova Liberation Army (KLA).
The foreign ministry issued the statement following a parliamentary session in Tirana. The Assembly spoke with one voice defending the values of the liberation war and its leaders.
Foreign Minister Elisa Spiropali described the parliamentary act as more than a political declaration. She said it reflects a nation’s memory and understanding of what it means to fight for freedom.
Tirana’s stance focuses on opposing any attempt to rewrite history or relativize crimes committed in Kosova.
The ministry pledged to use all diplomatic channels to counter narratives that equate victims with aggressors.
The statement emphasized that the KLA war was not a dark chapter. It described the conflict as a light during a dark time for all Albanians. The war, it added, defended survival, dignity, and the fundamental right of a people to live freely in their land.
The ministry confirmed that the stance will go beyond words. Officials plan to take concrete diplomatic steps in every international forum to ensure that Albania’s and Kosova’s voices are heard.
The initiative comes at a sensitive moment for former KLA leaders and their families. Parliament expressed full solidarity with them today.
The ministry stressed that this truth is not a political interpretation. It represents the collective conscience of the Albanian nation. It added that Kosova’s dignity is inseparable from the dignity of all Albanians.
