“Always with Gurakuqi” Exhibition at Shkodër History Museum

Shkodër History Museum has opened the “Always with Gurakuqi” exhibition, dedicated to patriot Luigj Gurakuqi on the 100th anniversary of his passing.
The exhibition features personal items, publications, and manuscripts from the national movement figure. These artifacts offer a glimpse into Gurakuqi’s remarkable legacy, as one of the key initiators of Albania’s declaration of independence.
Luigj Gurakuqi (Shkodër, February 20, 1879 – Bari, March 2, 1925) was a leading figure in the national cause, a signatory of the Declaration of Independence, as well as a scholar, teacher, linguist, economist, and a prominent figure in early 20th-century Albanian politics.
He served as Minister of Education in the Provisional Government of Vlora (1912), participated in the 1913 London Conference with Ismail Qemali and Isa Boletini, and was a founding member of the Literary Commission in 1916. Gurakuqi also led the June Bourgeois Democratic Revolution of 1924 and became Minister of Finance in the government led by Fan S. Noli. After the revolution’s suppression, he fled to Italy, where he was assassinated in Bari on March 2, 1925.
