Andri Xhahu Reflects on Two Decades with Radio Tirana: From Analog Beginnings to Digital Evolution

Andri Xhahu, whose career began at Radio Tirana, is now an integral part of its rich 86-year history. Speaking on RTSH 24 in honor of the station’s anniversary, Xhahu shared his journey, recounting how he started at Radio Tirana and has remained dedicated for the past 20 years.

Xhahu joined the station in 2004, a time of significant transition as Radio Tirana shifted from analog to digital broadcasting.

“When I think about the 20 years since I first knocked on the doors of Radio Tirana, it feels like a short chapter in the station’s long and storied history. Back in 2004, the transition from reel-to-reel tapes and magnetic recordings to digital formats was underway. It was a period of great responsibility—technicians at the transmission consoles had to remain constantly vigilant to ensure everything ran smoothly. Unlike today, where a failed MP3 can be quickly replaced, the analog era demanded much more precision and preparation. I’ve had the privilege to work with both systems,” Xhahu recalled.

Over the past two decades, Xhahu has witnessed remarkable changes in the radio industry. He stressed the importance of balancing speed and substance in delivering news.

“Radio has changed significantly in these 20 years. You need to convey the essence of news or an interview in under eight minutes. However, the challenge of being fast is avoiding superficiality. Radio Tirana continues to connect with listeners of all ages and remains widely followed. What sets it apart from other stations is its depth and substance, beyond just music,” Xhahu emphasized.

He also remarked on the shifting attitudes of younger generations, noting that many lack interest in radio, often drawn instead to the allure of instant fame.

In closing, Xhahu expressed pride in Radio Tirana’s enduring legacy and its ability to dominate the airwaves with quality content that continues to resonate across generations.
