Angelin Preljocaj and Erion Kruja Bring “Frymë” (Spirit) to the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet

The National Theatre of Opera and Ballet (TKOB) showcased two ballets in one evening. Last night, the performance “Frymë” (Spirit) graced the stage, featuring “La Stravaganza” and “Intricate Threads of Humanity.”

These ballets are the creations of two renowned international choreographers, Angelin Preljocaj and Erion Kruja.

Both works deeply explore the human experience, using ballet as a universal language to express emotions, contrasts, and the complexities of life.

Angelin Preljocaj, one of the most famous contemporary choreographers of Albanian descent, brought ‘La Stravaganza’ to life. This piece blends traditional elements with modernity, creating a fluid transition from the past to the future, like time itself, an endless circle, an eternity.

With powerful, expressive choreography, the ballet tackles the clash between 17th-century culture and modernity, exploring themes of immigration and the interplay between past and present.

The music combines Antonio Vivaldi’s compositions with electronic works by contemporary artists such as Evelyn Ficarra, Robert Normandeau, and Ake Parmerud.

‘La Stravaganza’ was originally created for the New York City Ballet as part of the “Diamond Project III,” premiering on May 22, 1997. Since then, it has been performed by various companies across the globe.

On the other hand, Erion Kruja, another Albanian choreographer with a flourishing international career, presented “Intricate Threads of Humanity” as an absolute premiere. The work delves deeply into human behavior and emotions.

Kruja’s bold approach to choreography, combined with his unique sensitivity to music and set design, created an unforgettable experience for the audience.
